High Demand for ‘workforce ready’ Classes at UCCI Sees Record Number of Registrations for Spring

Wednesday, Nov 30 2022

A trend that UCCI believes is enhanced by the increasing interest in short, stackable, certified workforce-ready training and education.

As of 28 November 2022, the University has almost 1,000 class registrations for classes beginning in January 2023. This equated to almost 370 unique students.  At the same date in 2021, the University College of the Cayman Islands had less than half of this number of students registered, at 181.

The University also held an adult open evening on 28 November 2022 which saw over 150 people come along on the evening to find out about UCCI’s adult offering starting in spring. This was hot off the heels of UCCI’s full day open campus ‘Metaverse’ event in October 2022, which saw thousands of youngsters visit the campus to get a taste of life at UCCI.

Dr. Robert W Robertson, President and Chief Executive Officer at UCCI, commented, “education is one of the most important gifts that you can give to someone and the University College of the Cayman Islands has something for everyone. We offer flexible learning both onsite, in person, and online, and we are flexible with our programmes for those who want full time study or those who are upskilling alongside careers and families. UCCI has the courses and industry recognized certifications to assist students in achieving their professional and educational goals.

“Alongside our ever-popular certificate, associate, bachelors and master’s programmes which range from Business and Nursing to Science and Electrical, UCCI also has a growing workforce development programme, something that has exploded post-COVID. Construction Technology level 1 is now offered full-time and part-time in the evenings, alongside programmes in the solar industry and much more. The quality of these are so high that we have just gained NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) accreditation for many of these.”

Paul Puckerin, Dean of Professional, Technical Vocation and Training at UCCI, commented, “we are very pleased with the enthusiasm of the approximately 185 persons in attendance at our adult open evening last night and we look forward to seeing many of them become students. Alongside UCCI’s full time trade programmes, we also offer a huge number of adult evening classes beginning in spring 2023. These include Real Estate, Construction, Computing, Quickbooks and Project Management. We will continue to grow and develop and give the people of the Cayman Islands the quality education that they deserve.”

UCCI has also strengthened its post-graduate programme and now offers Masters degree classes in Human Resource Management, Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration and Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration.

Applications and registrations for classes starting in spring 2023 are still open at UCCI.

Prospective students are urged to complete their applications quickly to be able to register for classes as some fill quickly. A complete list of courses can be found on the UCCI website and students can register at https://www.ucci.edu.ky/how-to-apply.
