$25,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Fund Student Success Thanks to UCCI and the Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation

Thursday, Mar 17 2022

On Friday 11 March 2022, the University College of the Cayman Islands awarded 30 of its students with scholarships totaling $25,000 thanks to the Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation.

The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation - University College of the Cayman Islands programme, is a comprehensive needs-based scholarship and retention programme for new and first-generation students at UCCI. The scholarship is awarded to qualifying Caymanians to pursue their Associate or Bachelor studies at UCCI. Students receive up to $2,500 in financial aid to cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies to pursue an Associates degree or a bachelor’s degree. Funded by generous donors, the programme serves students by providing funding for retention services such as tutoring, mentoring and academic enrichment.  The programme includes a co-curricular experience with an emphasis on leadership development and community service.

Donnette Goddard, Director of Student Life at UCCI, commented: “The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation continues to support our students year on year. Over the past three years we have received approximately 200 applications for the Peter N. Thomson scholarship with a total of 56 successful recipients and we have seen several students fulfill their dreams as graduates. This confirms the increasing and sincere financial needs of our students and the relief the Peter N. Thomson generous scholarship donation has afforded them”.

Dr. J.D. Mosley-Matchett, UCCI's Interim President & CEO, commented: “Scholarships are a fundamental element of success for many of our students and UCCI is committed to developing and supporting the various talents of Cayman's future workforce. We are absolutely thrilled that the Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation has chosen to support our student scholars. This is the third year that our students have benefited from these scholarship funds, and we look forward to continuing this critically important relationship.”.”

For more than 45 years, the University College of the Cayman Islands, the nation's premier provider of post-secondary education, has been transforming the lives of Cayman's residents. With a variety of certificates, undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as continuing and professional education and workforce training programmes, UCCI is prepared to assist students at any chapter of their story and welcome other Work Based Learning Scholarship partnerships.
