The Peter N Thomson Family Foundation Scholars are Announced

On February 24, 2020, The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) announced the Peter N Thomson Family Foundation– UCCI Spring 2020 Scholars. Ten young Caymanians will continue to pursue their Associate or Bachelor studies at UCCI without having to worry about financial aid.

The Peter N Thomson Family Foundation – UCCI Scholarship is designed to recruit and support students who are driven to improve the Cayman Islands in areas including, but not limited to: liberal arts, social sciences, and/or the sciences. Each scholar receives up to CI$2,500 financial aid to cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

The Peter N Thomson Family Foundation – UCCI Scholarship is renewable each year up to a two-year period for Associate degrees or up to a four-year period for a Bachelor’s degree. The scholarship is available for students in need of financial aid, such students are required to maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA) at the Bachelor’s level and 2.25 at the associate’s level to complete their tertiary studies at UCCI in the Spring 2020 Semester.

“The late Peter N Thomson’s vision was to push education in Cayman and also in the Bahamas. His son Peter A Thomson, former Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) CEO, and daughter Patricia Thomson-Leonard’s mission is to deliver on this vision with the launch of Peter N Thomson Family foundation in 2018. The foundation was impressed with UCCI’s vision and is an institution they want to continue to support. This is the first class and next generation of great Caymanians of many to come,??? said Mr. Wayne Ross representing the Peter N Thomson Family foundation.

“The scholarship programme empowers young Caymanian minds with higher education studies at UCCI so that they can become influential leaders in the Cayman Islands to make meaningful and lasting contributions to the islands,??? said Dr. Stacy McAfee, President and CEO at UCCI.

The Peter N Thomson - UCCI Spring 2020 Scholars pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree are: Somali Thompson - Associates of Science in Sciences (AS), Johnathan Page - Associates of Science in Computer Science (AA), Mauricea Lawson - Associates of Science in Computer Science (AA), Andre Mena-Hebbert - Associates of Science in Computer Science (AA), Yisel Masso Perez - Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Tison Maitland-Ebanks - Associates in Hospitality Management (AAS), Michael James Mullings- Associates of Science in Computer Science (AA), Mya Dunkley - Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Drasen Harris - Associates in Social Studies (AA), Melisa Mckenzie - Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
