Students and staff at the University College of the Cayman Islands came together and worked on a summer cleanup effort on campus. The group beautified the UCCI Campus by painting the parking blocks and clearing away debris. The cleanup team’s main goal is to help create an inviting atmosphere for the university community returning later this month.
Dr. Stacy R. McAafee, president and CEO joined students from the Student Representative Council (SRC), along with head of Student Life Ms. Donnette Goddard for the campus makeover project. President McAfee expressed “My husband and I had the honour of working alongside dozens of UCCI students who generously invested up to 3 full days to volunteer to the care and maintenance of their campus. I was humbled by their generosity and inherent understanding that if we expect others to contribute to our University’s well-being, we must first lead by example. We look forward to inviting community, alumni and all students faculty and staff to join us during our upcoming campus beautification days.“
Philip Bartholomew SRC President spoke about the project stating, “The beautification project was a great initiative in developing students’ time management, teamwork, and a means of which students learn to respect school property. It is a part of building campus by doing something that would promote further student involvement.” He continued on “ We look forward to having similar projects and events that will build a community within UCCI and promote the students of this institution.”
Ms Donnette Goddard was thrilled with the students’ enthusiasm and commitment. She said “It has been both inspiring and compelling and my sincere privilege to work with the SRC and its membership over the past few months. The UCCI Beautification Project is just one of the more astounding contributions I expect to see from them.”
