UCCI announces Dr. Jonetta Delaine Mosley-Matchett as Interim VP and Provost

Professor Dr. Jonetta Delaine Mosley-Matchett has been named as the University College of the Cayman Islands’ interim Vice President and Provost beginning May 11.

UCCI President and CEO Dr. Stacy McAfee made the announcement, saying, “I couldn’t be more pleased that Dr. Mosley-Matchett has accepted my invitation to serve in this critically important role.”

Dr. Mosley-Matchett, who has been with UCCI since August 2009, has a broad academic background including degrees in Electrical Engineering, Law and Business. She was promoted in 2019 from Assistant Professor to Professor of Business Studies and has been teaching for more than a decade at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Mosley-Matchett’s educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington; a Juris Doctor (law degree) from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas; and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She also taught at UT Arlington for 10 years in both the College of Business Administration and in the communications department of the College of Liberal Arts.

The position of Vice President and Provost was created two years ago to accommodate a shift in UCCI’s strategic plan. Dr. Mosley-Matchett will be tasked with overseeing the University College’s faculty, programmes and the day-to-day academic operations of the Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac campuses.

“It's an honour to have this opportunity to continue the work begun by UCCI's first VP/Provost, Dr. Livingston Smith. I look forward to joining President McAfee's team of executive leaders as the University College continues to grow from strength to strength” said Dr. Mosley-Matchett.

“As the University College of the Cayman Islands strives to achieve a bold strategic plan to become a student-centred, suitably resourced engine for economic development, innovation and social change she brings extraordinary experience, expertise and a deep dedication to UCCI and Cayman” said Dr. McAfee. “We are grateful for the strong foundation that Dr. Smith established as our first VP and Provost. Our students will continue to benefit from his deep expertise as Professor of Social Sciences beginning in May.”

While at UCCI, Dr. Mosley-Matchett has served as Dean of Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies and Professional Development. She currently serves as a member of UCCI’s Administrative and Academic Committee (AAC). She also serves as an Accreditation Commissioner for the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).  In 2017, she helped UCCI’s Business Studies Department pursue and attain international discipline-level accreditation from IACBE.
She also oversaw the first-time institutional accreditation achieved by UCCI, in 2015, from the British-based Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges & Universities. She is currently organising the effort to gain accreditation from the U.S.-based Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC).

Dr. Mosley-Matchett has been an active member within the Cayman business community and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise. In addition, she held an executive role for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s Tourism Attraction Board and CIMPA. For many years, she ran Sterling Impression, Inc., a Texas-based communications company that had such clients as Walmart, IBM and JC Penny. Dr. Mosley-Matchett formerly operated two communications companies, one in Cayman Brac and one in Texas.

“This is an exciting and transformational period for the UCCI. Tertiary education around the world is adapting to new realities in a constantly changing external environment. Our faculty and staff have embraced myriad changes during the last year and a half. We look forward to building from our history while making continual progress” said Dr. McAfee.

The search for UCCI’s next VP & Provost will begin this summer. UCCI encourages all qualified internal and external candidates to apply for this prestigious opportunity.
