About the Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation – UCCI Scholarship

 

The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation - University College of the Cayman Islands programme is a needs based scholarship designed to support Caymanians with tertiary education.  The scholarship will be awarded to qualifying Caymanians to pursue their Associate or Bachelor studies at UCCI. Students will receive up to KYD$2,500 in financial aid renewable each year to cover the of cost tuition, fees, books and supplies for full-time enrolment for a two-year period to pursue an Associate degree or a four years Bachelor’s degree. The scholarship will be awarded each year to the awardee (up to the maximum amount awarded) is renewable within limitations, and applicable towards the completion of studies. The award will be paid directly to UCCI and, allocated to the Scholar’s student account. The award will be used to fund: tuition, student and course fees, course texts, materials and supplies.

The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation – UCCI Scholarship is designed to recruit and support students who are driven to improve the Cayman Islands. The late Peter N. Thomson was one the founding members of Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) and served as a director for 25 years. His son, Peter A. Thomson, is one of CUC longest serving directors and was CUC’s President and CEO from 1986 until he retired in 2005.

The Thomson Leadership and Innovation Award seeks to reward the diligence, creativity, dedication and visions of the country’s most promising and inventive leaders. We seek to inspire scholars to dream big and plan how they will hone skills to bring back a big idea to revolutionize an industry or field in the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas. This scholarship is awarded to candidates who are innovators and have a track record of implementing big ideas into successful projects.

To become a Thomson Leadership and Innovation Award scholar, you are a creative thinker and innovator. You have created, lead and/or inspired others to make a measurable impact of change in a community project or in a business. You are passionate and driven to succeed in an emerging field that is underrepresented or wholly not represented in the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas, or you desire to bring a completely new perspective to a traditional and longstanding field or industry and require further education to do so.
