Job Vacancies

UCCI requires suitably-qualified lecturers for the following vacancies,
commencing 16 August 2010.

The University College of the Cayman Islands provides training to a range of student clients at various levels, during both day and evening. The College operates on a twelve-month calendar and offers associate degree programmes, bachelor and masters degrees, continuing adult education, competency-based certificate programmes and executive training. The University invites applications for the following positions for the academic year beginning August 16, 2010.

Job Description

The faculty’s role is to professionally manage the learning process and to advise students in achieving and establishing learning objectives in accordance with their goals. The faculty is to make use of all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment, which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature. The candidate will have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of students.

General Requirements

Minimum 3 years relevant experience with prior experience at the post-secondary level is desirable and a strong commitment to teaching is essential. Preference will also be given to applicants with relevant industry experience, a commitment to working with diverse student and community populations, and the ability to foster close relationships with relevant sectors of the community. Relevant industry experience would be an asset.

  • Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of English
    Reference # FAH 1001

    The position covers the teaching of English at the associate and bachelor’s levels. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in teaching success at the tertiary level.

    Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications:

    Must have a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in English or related field at the time of employment.

  • Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Mathematics and Physics
    Reference # FMS 1001

    The position covers the teaching of physics at the associate level and Mathematics at the associate and bachelor degree levels. In addition, the ability to offer courses in general science would be an asset. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in teaching success and ability to develop and teach laboratory components of the course. Relevant research experience will be an asset.

    Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications:

    Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Physics and experience in teaching Mathematics

  • Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Statistics and Mathematics
    Reference # FMS 1002

    This position covers the teaching of Statistics and Mathematics, primarily at the associate degree level. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordination of the Statistics curriculum, in addition to responsibility for teaching of a range of Mathematics courses, including Developmental Mathematics and College Algebra. Ability to teach Calculus with a range of applications, and the ability to develop and teach new courses would be strong assets.

    Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications:

    Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics and experience in teaching Mathematics

  • Information Officer
    Reference # A 1007:

    To provide information and excellent customer service to students and members of the public pertaining to the programmes offered at the University College of the Cayman Islands. In addition, carry out various front office tasks and responsibilities to support the smooth operation of the Administration Department.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • CUSTOMER SERVICE
    • Maintenance and filing of student records
    • Handling customer inquiries
    • Providing information to students
    • Assisting with registration, and providing support to the Registrar’s Office
    • Information Officer will assist with various tasks involved in front office operation
    • Reconcile individual student accounts

    Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications:

    • Customer service orientation as this position deals directly with customers
    • Attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential
    • Minimum 1 to 3 years in a business environment
    • Minimum Associate degree in accounting, business, or computer science
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Software
    • Experience in the use of Blackbaud SIS and related modules would be highly favoured
    • Experience with an accounting or informational database
    • Candidate should have an analytical and enquiring mind
    • Position requires a self starter with a high level of commitment, motivation, confidentiality and initiative

    Note:

      Interview will contain a practical application exercise.
  • Provision of Canteen Services
    Reference # Canteen:

    The University invites applications for the provision of Canteen services on the UCCI Main Campus.

    The Canteen will offer students, faculty, staff and visitors healthy choice breakfasts, lunches, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages at affordable prices from 8.00 am until 8.00 pm daily, Monday through Friday.

    The potential customer base over the course of a typical College day can be close to 500.

    Canteen premises are monitored by Security Cameras and the facilities include food storage and preparation areas and a small refectory capable of seating 30.

Applications

Must include (1) cover letter with description of experience relevant to the position, (2) curriculum vitae including a list of references, (3) copy of transcript of graduate studies taken (official copy required if an offer is made), and (4) a one-page statement of project and teaching interests and experience. This statement must also list the existing courses the candidate can teach and proposed new courses the candidate can develop.

Benefits

Two year contract, medical and pension plan, five weeks annual leave, and passages etc. as per contract.

Salary Range

Assistant Professor/Associate Professor Salary Range CI $54,024 - $79,452
Senior Lecturer Salary Range CI $49,644 - $66,528
Instructor/Lecturer Salary Range CI $45,372 - $56,676
Information Officer Salary Range CI $31,248 – $35,000
(CI $1.00 = US $1.20)
