Microsoft Certification Programmes

The University College of the Cayman Islands is an official Microsoft IT Academy, delivering the full spectrum of official Microsoft courses.

The University College of the Cayman Islands is offering the necessary certifications to allow individuals to progress towards the following roles:

  • Digitally Aware Individual
    • UCCI’s Introduction to Computers

      The goal of this course is to teach and assess basic computer concepts and skills so that people can use computer technology in everyday life to develop new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. Whether you are entirely new to computing or have some experience, this curriculum will help you develop a fundamental understanding of computers. From using the Internet, to sending e-mail, to creating a résumé, the Curriculum helps you develop the essential skills you need to begin computing with confidence.

  • Computer Technician
    • CompTIA A+

      If you are getting ready for a career as an entry-level information technology (IT) professional or personal computer (PC) service technician, the CompTIA® A+® Certification course is the first step in your preparation. The course will build on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer software and hardware to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job. In this course, you will acquire the essential skills and information you will need to install, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and perform preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.

      CompTIA NET+

      The CompTIA Network+ Certification course builds on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer operating systems and networks to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job in any type of networking career. If you are pursuing a CompTIA technical certification path, the CompTIA A+ certification is an excellent first step to take before preparing for the CompTIA Network+ certification.

      CompTIA Security+

      CompTIA Security+ validates knowledge of communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, operational security, and general security concepts. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that is taught at colleges, universities and commercial training centers around the world. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Security+ candidates have at least two years on-the-job networking experience, with an emphasis on security. The CompTIA Network+ certification is also recommended.

      CISCO CCNA

      The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.

      Windows XP, VISTA, or 7

      A comprehensive program of textbook, lab manual and software, this Microsoft Official Academic Course provides students with conceptual understanding and real world experience necessary for work force preparedness and to pass the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist examinations for Vista 2007

  • Specialized Business Worker
    • Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS)

      The Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) credential is a globally recognized standard that validates skills with using the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows Vista. The successor to the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) credential, the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist credential meets the demand for the most up-to-date skills on the latest technologies from Microsoft. The MCAS credential validates the skills that individuals and organizations depend on. Candidates who successfully complete the program by passing certification exams in each topic prove that they meet globally recognized performance standards and are able to work productively and efficiently.

      In addition, organizations that use the MCAS credential as a tool for quantitative skills measurement to facilitate identifying, hiring, promoting, and retaining qualified individuals can benefit from a streamlined recruitment process, greater individual productivity, and increased employee satisfaction.

      Microsoft Certified Application Professional (MCAP)

      The Microsoft Certified Application Professional (MCAP) credential, part of the Microsoft Business Certification program, sets a globally recognized standard to validate your skills using the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Microsoft SharePoint sites to collaborate across boundaries to complete projects, tasks, and deliverables. The MCAP credential demonstrates advanced, cross-industry, and cross-job role capabilities, focusing on critical areas of responsibility for business workers.

  • Consumer Support Technician
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

      The Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Consumer Support Technician (MCITP: Consumer Support Technician) credential is the premier certification to highlight and validate your expertise and skill set in a job role supporting a broad range of consumer desktop operating systems, desktop applications, mobile devices, networking, and hardware support issues related to the Windows Vista operating system. This certification is the right option for you if your interest lies in home user support or consumer retail support.

      The MCITP: Consumer Support Technician credential is part of the new generation of Microsoft certifications, which separates validation of technology and professional skills, providing a more relevant, flexible, and cost-effective way to validate core technical, professional, and architectural skills.

      To achieve this certification, you must successfully complete two exams: one Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) Windows Vista prerequisite exam and one Professional Series exam.

  • Database Administrator
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

      Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator (MCITP: Database Administrator) is the premier certification for database server administrators. This certification demonstrates that you can keep up with your enterprise business solutions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

      Database administrators install or configure Microsoft SQL Server and manage or maintain databases or multidimensional databases, user accounts, database availability, recovery, and reporting. They also design or implement security or server automation and monitor and troubleshoot SQL Server activity. Database administrators are typically employed by mid-sized to large organizations.

      Demonstrate your custom skill set and in-depth technical understanding of Windows Server 2008 by earning an MCTS certification. Three Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications on Windows Server 2008 demonstrate an IT professional's in-depth, current skills on Active Directory, network infrastructure, or applications infrastructure. Earn an MCTS certification so that you can be recognized for specialized technical knowledge and stand out to hiring managers as ready to excel in a Windows Server 2008 environment.

Server administrators are recognized among their peers and managers as leaders in the day-to-day operations management of Windows Server 2008. Demonstrate and communicate your ability to take system-wide ownership of Windows Server 2008 administration, and increase your organization’s return on technology investment, by earning the MCITP: Server Administrator certification.

      The MCITP: Server Administrator certification can help you develop and validate your skills in your current position, or propel you toward a future role, such as:
