Freedom of Information (F.O.I.)
FOI and UCCI
As a Statutory Authority, the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) in
compliance with the Freedom of Information Law, 2007, is committed to transparency and
openness to information held by this Authority.
The Freedom of Information Law was passed the 19th October, 2007 and becomes effective 5th
January, 2009. This gives the public the right of access to records held by public authorities.
Concomitantly, the Law provides exemptions to information which could be damaging on a personal
or commercial level or to the security of the Cayman Islands. Details of these exemptions are
available on the FOI Unit website.

How to make a Freedom of Information (FOI) Request
In order to facilitate a prompt response, an FOI request should be in writing either by letter,
email, or facsimile and should include the following:
- Name
- Address (postal or email)
- Contact telephone number (if possible, to facilitate further clarification)
The FOI team at the University College will respond to your request within 30 calendar days which
includes week-ends and public holidays. Under the law the Authority can extend this time to a further
30 days. In the event of this, notification shall be given to the requestor.

Costs for Requests
Requests or the inspection of records are not subject to a fee. However, there may be fees attached
if the request warrants a change of the information format. For details on the FOI fee regulations
