Cayman Brac Campus

The University College of the Cayman islands (UCCI) made history in 2008 through an unprecedented initiative of establishing a satellite campus on Cayman Brac which enabled the people of the Sister Islands to enjoy the opportunities of tertiary education. Catering to the needs of both high school Year 12 students and graduates and mature residents already in the workforce, the Brac campus offers adequate and affordable preparation for transfers to overseas universities, provides technical and vocation courses that bridge gaps in local business, and empowers students to achieve their personal goals of higher learning and higher education.

"For the Brac, our campus offers graduating students from the high school plus high school "Dual Entry" year 12 students – as well as adults "getting their feet wet" again – a unique opportunity to develop a tertiary education programme without leaving the island," explains Campus Director Martin Keeley. "Many of the younger students aged 16 to 17 are not ready to leave the island to continue their studies overseas. We give them the chance to learn self-directed study at the same time as maturing to be able to handle the culture of a mega-university."

In addition, there are many adults on the Brac working full-time who are unable to leave their families to study off-island. Many of the older generation never had a chance to earn a degree – and now they can. The same is true of those working with government and government agencies who can also get a degree through the Civil Service College. Many "live" classes are offered through adjunct faculty on the Brac, and there are also two classrooms dedicated to the inter-active Polycom video systems that enable students to experience real-time interactive lectures from the Grand Cayman campus.
